Microsoft Details Language Support In Mango Update For Windows Phone
John McConnell, Principal Program Manager of Windows Phone Engineering, has posted quite a lengthy article on the Windows Phone Blog detailing language support coming to Windows Phone with the Mango update later this fall. Feel free to take a look at the entire article, but as usual we will post the best details and goodness for you right below.
At launch (and currently) the Windows Phone already supports English (US and UK), French, German, Italian, and Spanish. With the Mango update Microsoft is adding 17 more languages: Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian (Bokmål), Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Swedish. Along with support for those languages coming to Windows Phone later this year, Zune will also support the same languages.
To support some of the new languages, four new fonts will be added for East Asian languages:
, Turkish, and Ukrainian.The keyboard languages shown in italics also support text prediction, which makes typing on your phone faster and easier. Even better, all these input languages are available on any Windows Phone, regardless of which display languages come with it.
The new East Asian keyboards—which were developed in Asia by the same team that creates them for Windows and Office—are especially neat. We’ll explore them in more detail in a future post.
Buying apps and playing games
I know many of you also want to know about our global rollout plans for services like Marketplace and Xbox LIVE.
As we announced last month, starting this fall you’ll be able to buy apps from Windows Phone Marketplace in 35 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and the United States. (The specifics of how you buy an app and which apps are available in Marketplace do vary by country.)
This fall you’ll see a significant increase in the number of new countries where the Xbox LIVE service for Windows Phone is available. The Zune Marketplace for music, video, and podcasts is also expanding to more markets. We’re not quite ready to announce specifics just yet—expect to hear more later this summer.

I need a few good resources to download free fonts.?
All the font sites only let you test a sentence with the font choice. We are doing a rebrand, and would like to pull it into some of our existing documents to test – so I need a free version for testing. We will then buy licenses for the ones we want. Anyone know of good resources to find these free versions – I already know about abstractfonts. Much thanks!

Tip: if you don’t want to fully install the font, you can double click on the .ttf file on your desktop – Windows font viewer will open up. Keep the viewer open and launch a program like Word or Photoshop. The font will be available for you to use during that session.
