Sturgis awarded water-system grant
The city of Sturgis will receive a $3.46 million low-interest loan to cover interim financing for improvements to a drinking water system, according to the state Board of Water and Natural Resources. The projects include well removal and replacement, booster pump upgrades, pressure reducing valve and station upgrades, well-house upgrades, upgrades to three storage tanks, upgrades to wells and water-main replacement on various streets.
The total cost of the project will be $3.62 million.
An additional $200,000 low-interest loan will also go to the Belle Fourche Irrigation District for sprinkler irrigation. The project will assist irrigators in converting from flood irrigation to sprinkler irrigation, reducing the amount of return flow carrying sediment into the Belle Fourche River.
The Board of Water and Natural Resources also approved a $300,000 grant and a $250,000 low-interest loan to the city of Interior for construction of a new wastewater treatment system. That project includes a three-cell, 1.6-acre wastewater treatment system, a pumping facility and replacement of a portion of the main line. Estimated cost is $875,000.
